Rush Hour Traffic Mess

If you were trying to get around during rush hour last night you know what a mess it was.  According to Metra, about 5:34pm on Thursday April 12, 2012, crossing gates were reported struck down at Northwest Highway and Arthur Ave, Northwest Highway and Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway and Evergreen Ave.

Traffic on Arlington Heights Road was backed up all the way past Euclid Avenue North of the tracks and to Central South of the tracks. Many drivers headed toward the underpass east of Arthur Ave. to cross from south to north. Drivers trying to cross in downtown backed up traffic for blocks on Dunton Ave. Metra repair trucks arrived just after 6pm, almost a half hour after the initial problem was reported!
